The South Hams Arts Forum (SHAF) proudly presents the Arts Trail 2024, running from Saturday 12th to Sunday 27th October. This annual event celebrates our vibrant artistic community, offering a platform for local residents to showcase their talents, creativity, and passion for the arts.

Highlights of the 2024 Arts Trail:

  • Over 50 Artists, 20+ Venues: Explore a vast array of creative expressions in beautiful locations such as Kingsbridge Market Hall, Avon Mill Café and Devon Studios in Loddiswell, and Newton Ferrers Yacht Club.
  • Meet the Artists: Engage with artists in their own studios and homes, gain insights into their creative processes, and even see them at work.
  • Unique Purchases: Find that perfect piece of original art to take home and enjoy.
  • Workshops: Participate in artist-led workshops to learn new skills and unleash your own creativity.

This year’s Arts Trail introduces many new makers working in a mix of disciplines, alongside beloved returning artists showcasing new and exciting works. From painting and sculpture to textiles, ceramics, and more, there’s something to captivate every art enthusiast.

Being in the heart of the South Hams, most venues are situated near stunning walks, beaches, and award-winning pubs. We encourage visitors to enjoy the opportunity to visit artists’ studios and exhibitions, whilst having a great day out.

Experience the Trail: Visitors can easily follow the Trail using the distinctive yellow signs with black arrows situated around exhibiting venues, guiding visitors through the South Hams, including Dartington, Totnes, Ivybridge, Plymstock, Kingsbridge, and Thurlestone.

The Arts Trail brochure, available for free from Tourist Information Centres, local businesses, pubs, hotels, and restaurants, or downloadable from the SHAF website (www.shaf.org.uk), provides essential information on each artist and venue, including location, opening days, and hours.

Watch out for the 2024 Brochure coming soon!

The SHAF Arts Trail provides an opportunity for visitors to view and buy work directly from the makers. Visitors discover paintings, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery, lampshades, mosaics, hand-turned wooden items. Furniture, felt, paper and textile art, photography, basketry, printmaking and so much more.

SHAF artists taking part in the Trail work and exhibit in a wide variety of venues: some work on their kitchen tables, others in purpose-built studios; some work alone, others in an artists’ collective. Visitors will find artists exhibiting in their homes and studios, in galleries, exhibition halls, hotels and pubs. Following the Arts Trail provides visitors with a wonderful opportunity to explore the glorious South Hams and discover places they never knew existed.

The 2023 Arts Trail Brochure provides ‘at a glance’ information to help visitors plan their route: a map of the area shows where all participating artists may be found, and venues are listed for easy reference; Venue Opening Dates and Times are listed, as well as artists by name, their venue and the page on which they appear in the brochure. This enables visitors on the trail of specific artists to locate them easily.

Following the Arts Trail enables visitors to discover the latest works of their favourite artists, find new artists and artwork to add to their ‘favourites’ list.

SHAF hopes all visitors to the Arts Trail will have a wonderful time and will take the opportunity to drop in for a delicious lunch or cream tea at one of the cafes, hotels, pubs and restaurants advertised in the brochure.
