Full Biography

Ann trained at Harrow School of Art and worked as a graphic designer for some years before becoming a full time printmaker. She exhibits regularly and has work in private collections in this country and abroad, and permanently on display at Greenwich Printmakers Gallery, Wildwood Gallery Dartmoor, Wychwood Gallery, Bell Fine Art Winchester and New Ashgate Gallery Farnham. She has exhibited at Bankside RE open, Society of Woman Artists at the Mall Galleries, Affordable Art Fair Battersea and Hampstead, as well as being prizewinner in the ‘Inspired by’ competition at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Ann’s printmaking is informed by the textures and patterns found in both the natural and man-made landscape around us. She regularly walks in the countryside and along the coastal paths in Devon. She is drawn to the beauty of the rolling hills, the narrow hedgerow lanes and dramatic coastline, and the sense of mystery about where things may lead and where they may have originated. An idea may be sparked by the way the wind has blown a tree to make an interesting shape, or a path leading into the distance.

Ann likes to accentuate the patterns that she finds in the natural world. She makes sketches and takes photos along the way and works on these when she returns to her studio.

The reduction linocut method suits her slightly graphic approach to the image, where she can accentuate the patterns and shapes from my sketches into a print. She enjoys working out the cutting process of the lino for the many layers of colours that will be applied to the plate at each stage.
