Short Biography

SWAc Ceramic artist and Art Educator based at ‘Mercer ArtBox’, in Kingsbridge

Full Biography

Born in West Sussex, Caroline always wanted to be an artist and a teacher. She studied Art and Education at St Luke’s School of Education, University of Exeter. Her final teaching practice brought her to Salcombe, for the first time, where she knew she wanted to stay. Since graduating in 1996, she has been engaged with art education; as a teacher, an artist, a leader and a lecturer. She is now based at ‘Mercer ArtBox’, in Kingsbridge;  a studio classroom which serves as her own creative space and a super, learning space where she leads and coordinates art making lessons, workshops and events for all ages.

Caroline is an academician with South West Academy of Arts SWAc. She is also a member of West Country Potters association.

Caroline hand builds her pieces which are inspired by her love of the sea, storytelling and maritime archaeology. She explores the materials and handbuilding processes. Her approach is explorative and playful. Each piece is unique and offers up it’s own story. Her work is mostly sculptural and decorative but can also be functional and always leans towards vessels from past times and cultures.
