Biography
A mixed media and collage artist, influenced by the changing moods and light of the sea and coastline
Rachel is a self taught mixed media artist who produces paintings in both traditional watercolour and acrylic. She also enjoys working with a variety of materials including torn magazine papers and fabric to create mixed media collages. Some of her more recent pieces have been textile based, including using free motion and hand stitching techniques to evoke abstract scenes.
She often uses natural materials such as sand, shells and wool in her work to create a rich variety of textures. Making her own glues and pastes, Rachel enjoys experimenting with how they interact with different paint and surfaces.
Born near the sea on the Wirral peninsula and spending childhood holidays on the beautiful and rugged isle of Anglesey has instilled a love of beaches and the sea. After a period living in North Yorkshire, moving to South Pool 10 years ago has enabled her to continue exploring coastal themes in her work.
