Since discovering soft pastels they have become my favourite medium. I love their forgiving nature and their versatility. They can be used to evoke the ethereal or make detailed studies and bold dramatic statements. My current work focuses on the coastal region of Start Bay where I live. I am continually inspired by the beauty which the seasonal changes bring about e.g. dramatic winter storms; stunning arrays of wild flowers on Strete Gate and at Slapton Ley Reserve in the summer and the autumnal sun illuminating the reeds whilst we await the murmuration of the visiting starlings. To paint these is to re-live wonderful experiences.
