Biography
A life-long embroiderer recently turned artist.
Born in 1964, I have worked most of my life as a writer, translator and educator, but I have always had some kind of needlework to hand. In 2024, I made my debut at Delamore Arts, with the Allotment Series; four large pieces of hand-embroidery and applique work. They were all sold to a private collector before the show opened – leaving me in a state of shock!
I have followed this with four equally large hand-embroidery and applique pieces, the Sea Garden Portraits. I continue to expand my practice, stitching things I love, exploring new techniques and reviving old ones. I am particularly interested in old textile fragments that have sentimental significance to their owners, and incorporating these in new embroideries. I also love to write about the layers of provenance, legacy and memories in each piece, as shown in the stories on my website.
