Full Biography

A lifelong creative, Tabitha has engaged in many artistic pursuits such as poetry, painting and weaving. Ceramic became a passion whilst at a figure sculpting course, when something clicked and she fell in love with clay! This sparked her decision to embark upon a degree in 3D Design Crafts at Arts University Plymouth. There, she enjoyed experimenting with a diverse range of materials such as glass, wax and fabric, as well as clay.

Since graduating, Tabitha has set up her own small business teaching hand-built pottery and sculpture techniques to adults and children in her home studio in Totnes, Devon. She also makes a varied range of Art work, including her latest passion: her growing collection of hanging pods.

She enjoys the repetitive process of casting, combined with the creative variables in the final composition of clays, glazes and of the casted pieces to create unique pieces, a bit like a family!

Her hanging pods are currently made by means of original hand built prototypes, from which she makes plaster molds. With these plaster molds, she produces slip cast components from different clay bodies that can be joined to create new forms. A pod is a protective container of life and potential waiting to emerge. Her sculptural pods can be stand alone abstract art pieces for your home or garden. Or additionally they can be put to practical uses such as for lighting, growing plants or in the garden as bird feeders.
