Biography
My deep love for Cornwall and Devon has inspired me throughout my life, its’ long-varied coastline, rugged moors and winding creeks make up a unique landscape which has shaped and influenced my artwork.
Growing up in a community where art is a valued part of everyday life has been a real privilege and I am thrilled to be living in a part of the country I hold so dear.
My recent work has been made in direct response to the sky and cloud formations that I have witnessed and experienced over the Spring and Summer months. The colours and gentle movements of the clouds reflected in the sea is continually inspirational to me and I strive to reflect some of this beauty within my own work. I sea swim throughout the year and find this exhilarating pastime creates a personal connection to the ocean which I call on when creating work in my studio at home in Bantham, South Devon.
This series of paintings have been created with acrylic paint. I find this medium lends itself well to capturing light which I continually strive to show emanating from my paintings.
I am inspired by the work of many artist both contemporary and traditional, but I am particularly drawn to the work of J, M.W Turner and the work of the impressionist painters, Dutch Marine painters.
